Cohasset
Cohasset Harbor is a pristine, protected and serene New England Harbor. This harbor offers boaters a true flavor of New England coastal towns. Along the shores of Cohasset Harbor are facilities for dining, sailing, and a replica of the famous Minot's light. Only 16 nautical miles to Boston, a cruise into Boston Harbor can be a direct, or, if you choose, find your way through the Harbor Islands State Park.
Minot's Ledge Lighthouse, for more that 150 years, has inspired awe and is often called one of the most romantic lighthouses in the country, due in part to its distinctive 1-4-3 ("I love you") flash pattern. The stone structure is firmly planted on an almost invisible outcropping of rocks, called Minot's Ledge. Originally built in 1860, the lighthouse standing today is the second one constructed, the first having toppled in a major storm in 1850, killing the two keepers. Today, the lighthouse is automated, and can be seen from several spots in Scituate and Cohasset, Massachusetts.
Fishermen will find a variety of fish here in the harbor, including striped bass, whitefish and channel catfish. Whether you’re fly fishing, bait casting, or spinning – your chances are good at getting a bite here. So grab your fly fishing rod and reel and head out. Don't forget to check with the local Fish and Wildlife department to ensure the bay is open to the public, and that you have the necessary fishing license. Now what are you waiting for, get fishing!
Kayaking for flatwater, whitewater and ocean kayakers can be found along the Cohasset Coastline. Cohasset Harbor itself is a safe area for flatwater kayakers. You can go around the perimeter and see some of the boats, properties and restaurants that line the harbor. The Gulf River is a tidal estuary that feeds from the harbor. Here, the current is very fast and is flowing over boulders. This area is quite popular for whitewater kayakers. For sea kayakers, there are two primary destinations worth visiting- Strawberry Points and just beyond is Minot Light - an absolute must destination, and a short stretch north from the harbor mouth is Little Harbor, a beautiful harbor with several small rock islands where you will see a variety of birds.
